Welcome to the NYC Travel Planner. The main page is intended as a rough guide to point you to spots in specific neighborhoods that have been vetted.
This page will be a list of tools to help you get to and around the city.
If you're trying to get to NYC chances are you will be flying. We have made this tool available for you to find a cheap flight. Otherwise check with your preferred airline, but always try to fly in direct. If your airline doesn't fly into JFK, EWR, or LGA from your airport then it it's time to find a new carrier.
Our recommended way to get from the airport into the city is using a taxi and with the Curb App, this will let you pay with your phone and you do not have to worry about being scammed; you can also just head straight to the Taxi Stand and leave the airport immediately. There is a Flat Rate Fare from the airport into the city, but after tip, surcharges and taxes it'll run you about $70-$80. You can take the Train from JFK but it is significantly slower and you have to defend your luggage.
If Taxis aren't an option Lyft can get you around, but could be significantly more expensive and you will likely have to wait a few moments more.
The BEST way to get around the city once you have checked into your hotel is using the Subway, see more in the navigation section. Before you arrive, make sure you set up a tap to pay method in your phone to take advantage of OMNY.
If you are already comfortable with your navigation skills then Google Maps will be able to get you around without issue.
If you would like a little bit more hand holding then City Mapper is a wonderful alternative.
If you are looking for a subway specific navigation use Underway. This is a fantastic tool if you are comfortable in the city and need to find train times and coordinate rides and arrivals.
There are plenty of places we recommend to stay through the main page but sometimes it's not what you're looking for. Use this tool to find the cheapest spots in town.
